Our sustainable actions

We reduce our environmental impact, use renewable energy, and support both employee well-being and a more conscious mindset.

ETS NORD’s CO₂ footprint

Carbon footprint assessment reflects the greenhouse gas emissions resulting from our operations and helps us evaluate our impact on the environment and climate change. We measure our company’s CO₂ emissions annually to understand our environmental impact and take actions to reduce it.

In 2024, ETS NORD’s carbon footprint was 72.9 tons of CO₂ equivalent (t CO₂e), of which Scope 1 emissions accounted for 0.7%, Scope 2 for 5%, and the largest share – 94.3% – came from indirect Scope 3 emissions, mainly raw materials.

Our goal is continuous improvement to increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions. We optimize material use to minimize production waste. We sort metal scrap for recycling and reuse. By 2030, we aim to reduce our Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ footprint by 55% compared to 2020.

Sustainable construction

Our new factory building, completed in 2024 at the Tallinn production unit, was built sustainably from design to commissioning. The construction focused on reducing environmental impact and improving energy efficiency. Load-bearing structures from old buildings were crushed during demolition, and the resulting aggregate was reused for filling works.

A solar park was installed on the roof to reduce the need for purchased energy. The building is equipped with LED lighting controlled by motion sensors. The new factory was designed for maximum energy efficiency, meeting the requirements of an A-class energy label.

Renewable energy production

Our goal is to reduce dependence on external electricity from fossil sources and move toward more environmentally friendly production. As a first step, we installed a solar park with 947 panels on the roof of our new factory building, with a total capacity of 435 kWp.

The next stage will add another 1,400m² solar park with storage capability, allowing us to store energy and use solar power during evenings and cloudy weather. The adoption of solar energy has helped us save on electricity and heating costs while simultaneously reducing our ecological footprint.

Green recreation area

For us, sustainability also means caring for our employees. To make work breaks more enjoyable, we created a large green space on our premises with shelters where employees can enjoy fresh air, sunshine, chat with colleagues, have lunch, or play disc golf.

The area includes landscaping with berry bushes such as currants, gooseberries, and honeysuckle, which we hope will soon bear delicious fruit. In the next stage, we plan to add outdoor fitness equipment and a bicycle parking area for our employees.

Green Tiger Academy – our journey toward sustainability

In 2023, we joined the Green Tiger Academy, a four‑month management development program created in cooperation with accredited universities, to deepen our understanding of environmental issues, share experiences with other companies, and develop an action plan to bring a sustainable mindset to our employees.

As part of the program, we developed a communication and action plan designed to engage our colleagues and inspire them to adopt more eco-friendly habits in their daily lives. We believe that introducing and explaining green topics leads to individual actions that make all of us more environmentally conscious.

In the following years, our focus has been on raising employee awareness, enabling everyone to make informed and sustainable choices, not only at work but also in everyday life. From consumption to mobility, our daily habits play a crucial role in reducing environmental impact. It all starts with us, and every contribution matters.
