NTO-G: A round duct with 64% lower carbon footprint

Growing sustainability requirements mean that more and more projects need to prioritize solutions with the lowest possible environmental impact and CO₂ footprint. To meet this demand, ETS NORD has added the NTO-G spiral duct to its product portfolio. The duct is manufactured from low-carbon XCarb® steel produced by ArcelorMittal, Europe’s largest steel manufacturer.

What makes XCarb® different from conventional steel?

XCarb® steel contains at least 87% recycled material and is produced using 100% renewable electricity. The GWP-fossil (A1-A3) value of XCarb® hot-dip galvanized steel is approximately 0.88 kg CO₂e/kg, compared to 2.57 kg CO₂e/kg for conventional hot-dip galvanized steel, based on EPD data.

Lower carbon footprint

The type of steel used in the production of circular ducts has a significant impact on the product’s carbon footprint. The NTO-G spiral duct made from XCarb® steel has a 64% lower carbon footprint (GWP-total, A1-A3) than the standard NTO spiral duct manufactured from conventional hot-dip galvanized steel.

For example, by using NTO-G circular ducts with a diameter of 125 mm, the carbon footprint can be reduced by approximately 2.39 kg CO₂ per running metre. Products manufactured from XCarb® steel can also contribute toward earning credits in LEED and BREEAM-certified projects.
