Kuntolaakso in Kuopio relies on the corrosion proof Magnelis® material.

Kuntolaakso is not only the home hall of KalPa, the football team from Kuopio, but also an extensive construction and repair project that covers swimming pools and ice rinks, as well as parking services. Kuntolaakso is made as a life-cycle project.

The client, City of Kuopio, signed a 20-year service agreement with YIT Rakennus Oy and Caverion Suomi Oy. Caverion is responsible for the technical design and the turnkey of the construction phase, as well as for the technical maintenance, upkeep, and energy consumption of the properties during the 20-year service period, as well as for the service production provided to users. The properties will be connected to remote management system, which will enable Caverion to monitor the operation of technical systems and their energy efficiency.

Project Development Manager Arto Taivassalo from Caverion Suomi Oy says that they have invested a lot in searching for sustainable duct materials. – It was clear from the beginning that a mere galvanized duct will not endure in Kuntolaakso. We went through many options. Our goal was to find material that combines good durability with a reasonable price, he says. – We ended up with ETS NORD’s Magnelis®, which is corrosion proof but clearly more affordable than stainless steel.
