Functional and community-friendly urban housing

The 16-storey Jätkäsaaren Pollari, which was completed in autumn 2020 as Jätkäsaari’s tallest residential building, stands out as a landmark in the skyline of Helsinki’s city center.

When the old cargo-port area of ​​Jätkäsaari has been built as an extension of the main city and a functional residential area, customer orientation has been emphasized in the area’s projects right from the beginning.

The entire construction area consists of three blocks in Jätkäsaari. Jätkäsaaren Pollari is the first block started by its constructor Hartela. The whole block is expected to be completed in 2021. The first completed Pollari has apartments ranging from studios to 4-5-room apartments. Pollari stands out for its height but also architecturally, with its wide balconies.

The residents of the building have also been involved in the planning. They were able to choose the interior style and surface materials for the common clubhouse. Residents also have access to a common guest room in the house.

Mikko Merve from Hartela was the corresponding expert of Pollari’s construction site, who says that in Pollari, the fluency of everyday life has been facilitated by placing the extra furniture on the living floors. At the same time, however, the solution increased the need for fire safety and that had to be considered carefully in the design.

The right product for the need was found from ETS NORD. – SEDM-L is a CE-marked louvre multi-compartment smoke damper that is very well suited to situations where the smoke control damper is required to have the smallest possible depth. Such places are, for example, residential apartment buildings, where smoke extraction is carried out directly from the corridor to the smoke extraction flue. Thanks to the high fire rating and modular installation of the smoke control damper, it is ideal for challenging conditions, says Oskari Mattila, Product Manager at ETS NORD.
