Jüri School’s training kitchen
ETS NORD canopies ensure a perfect indoor climate in Jüri School’s training kitchen
This spring, Jüri School (Jüri Kool) in Estonia unveiled a new 24-seat training kitchen that offers children opportunities their parents could only dream of during their school years. In addition to the standard stoves and ovens, this kitchen features a hot air fryer, grill, ice cream machine, and even a coffee machine for creating latte art.
ETS NORD developed a modern ventilation solution for the school’s training kitchen, supplying canopies that ensure a clean and safe environment for students developing their skills in the kitchen.
Gert Reisner, the head of catering at Jüri School, told ETS NORD in an interview that the new training kitchen differs significantly from the typical vocational education kitchens, which are usually dominated by stainless steel surfaces that are not common in home kitchens. “Our kitchen is built on the principles of a home kitchen,” Reisner explained, adding that the school’s kitchen should resemble a home environment. “In this kitchen, students learn the basics of cooking and using kitchen appliances, giving them the confidence and skills to operate independently in their home kitchens,” he said.
This homely atmosphere is exactly where ETS NORD canopies play a central role—they visually blend into the kitchen setting yet perform an essential industrial task: providing efficient and quiet ventilation that removes steam and airborne grease particles and supplies clean air to the kitchen.
“We cannot change family eating habits during school lessons, but we can influence them. If a child takes home a dish made during cooking class and the family approves, that’s the highest praise for us,” said Reisner.
Students from 5th grade onward can practice their culinary skills in the kitchen. But it’s not only for students – the new kitchen doesn’t go unused after school hours. To maximize the use of the space and keep the beautiful facility active, evening cooking sessions with families will be held, welcoming parents as well.
