New sizing program for Recair air handling units

08.02.2021

The new program will easily and efficiently dimension Finnish Recair air handling units.

A new type of sizing program for Recair air handling units, borne out of long development work, has been launched. The program has numerous new features that have not previously been seen in the industry. “The basis for the software development was to meet the needs of designers with modern tools,” says Aleksi Kähärä, who led the software project and has a background in HVAC system design himself. “Ease of use had to be combined with the possibility of making specifications accurately and transparently,” he continues.

The software has been developed entirely from a clean slate. It has proven and familiar elements, but also completely new powerful and versatile functions that are easy to absorb. The structure of the program is a mixture of two different worlds and offers the benefits of both as a hybrid model. It is a Windows application that connects to the ETS NORD server, providing real-time dimensioning data, which ensures that the user always has the latest version at their disposal. Installing the program does not require administrator privileges.

“The designer’s dream is to make the best possible solutions without compromise. For a long time, we have recognized the importance of an easy but efficient sizing program,” says Kähärä.

“We will continue to be ready to develop the program based on feedback, and we can still add new features that are important for the designers.”

Even the most easy-to-use program requires concentration and learning to be able to use it efficiently. “By giving us this time and providing feedback on the use of the program and its features, we in turn promise to build the best air handling sizing program in the industry that saves working hours and does things that similar programs have not previously been able to do,” Kähärä promises.

AHUiQ features:

– Office-specific default values

Common default values and dimensioning values can be entered into the software that will take effect for the entire staff. This allows management to ensure that all designers have as a default the design parameters in use as defined by the office.

– Project-specific SFP figures

In addition to the units in the program, you can enter external devices that impact the SFP figure. This allows the designer to have a real-time view of the SFP figure of the entire project. Balancing between dimensions and SFP requirements can be done quickly and efficiently.

– Component locking

New challenges are posed by today’s demand-controlled ventilation. The user of the program must have an idea of how the unit performs with small loads or large streams of boost airflows without fear of changing components. The program measures all components in real-time but does not change them unless there is permission to do so. This allows the designer to ensure the operation of the unit throughout the unit’s control range.

– Inbuilt unit revisions

The designer can make a revision of the same unit position. A revision allows you to test different components or, along with component locking, to see how the unit would perform with partial loads or in a boost situation. Since the units undergo changes along with the project, we provide the tools to control this. Active revisions are visible and printed on technical documents, but the user can go to any revision in the list at any time, to create more of them or delete unnecessary ones.

– Lifecycle cost 1.0

The program includes the first version of the lifecycle cost. With the lifecycle cost, the designer is able to assess the impact of different solutions on operating costs and choose the most cost-effective and ecological solution.
